My antenna is in down position 200

My antenna is in the down position.

1) Will it hurt it to take some pliers and just pull it up?

2) I don't have the time to trouble shoot the whole system, is there a way I can "jump start" the antenna so it goes up?

thanks y'all

    Danno -

The antenna is power through a 2-wire harness, the connector is usually tucked up in behind or around the antenna somewhere.

One wire is hot when the key is in I or II, the other wire is hot when the radio is on. If both wires are hot, the antenna goes up, assuming it's mechanically OK. With the radio off but the key on, only one wire is hot, and the antenna goes down.

Sounds like you have no power to the "radio on" wire. Use a voltmeter or a test light. In that connector, Green is the "always hot" wire and the "radio on" wire is black.

There way be an in-line fuse in the "radio on" lead between the radio head unit and the 9-pin connector to it. That wire is red, and the connector is somewhere behind the radio itself or up above the driver's side knee pad.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

Well on my 244, I have a power antenna, but it's not stock. It's got a junction block with 2 spades plugged into it. I found out by unplugging this one or that one that the antenna would always stay up, or always down. If your antenna is stock, I'm not sure how hard it would be to get to the wires and just try unplugging one of them. In retrospect, I guess it's also possible that if the above is true, maybe one of the wires came out so as to keep the antenna in the down position.

Does the antenna make any noise when you turn the radio on/off?

Another case would be that the antenna mast (plastic w/teeth) is broken. If that's the case, I guess you could just pull up on it, but hat would probably break what's left of the mast and make it just that much harder to replace the mast.

I would try the electrical trick before just pulling it out for fea of breaking it.

    Good luck,
    Seth
