bucking car 200

Wife's 88, 240, m47ll, 5 speed occasionally will buck like crazy as she just starts out. If she gives it gas, car dies. Usually goes away after a mile or so. Haven't had the experience yet, don't know where to start troubleshooting? Electrical, cold start injector, temp. sensor, fuel, tranny, clutch? All suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Assuming we can pinpoint the engine as the area of concern (can't help you if you can't tell the clutch and tranny from the engine running) , I would certainly start with the usual suspects, the fuel pump relay, 25 amp fuel injection fuse by the rattery, the in-car fuse, and the in-tank pump. I would see if filling the tank solves the problem. Then you know it is the in-tank pump hose that has separated. I would then replace the cheap and relatively easy in-tank pump.

Thanks for the info. I haven't driven my wife's car much at all. Just going on her verbal descriptions. I will check it on Sat. I have Bentley's, but was wondering whether our 1988 has a cold injector like my 1982? Thanks again.
This board is the way the internet should work.

Ricko

Check out the easy things first:

Check the plug wires, cap, rotor, plugs. Then look for a large vacuum leak. If all seems fine replace the fuel filter and check to make sure that both fuel pumps are working.

An occational problem is the most difficult to find.

Good Luck and happy Brickin'
