car keeps running with key out. 200 1983

Why would my car still run after removing the key, this never happened before. I sprayed a bunch of wd in there thinking it might be sticking, that didn't help. I have to remove the hot wire from the coil to stop the car from running. Has anyone ever had this problem, and how do you fix this? I take the key out with it running, put it back in, move it all around and won't shut down.

A good friend of mine had the EXACT same problem with his 240 and he also found a crumbling wiring harness. Had to disconnect the hot feed to the coil as well. A new wiring harness fixed his problem.
Good luck and patience with the job!

Mine did this because of cracked wires in the harness. I wiggled the wires up by the grey plug on the firewall until it quit. Eventually I got the wires separated enough so the symptom went away. I've got a new harness on the way but you might be able to temporarily fix it by wiggling/separating wires. By the way, none of this started happening until after I tried using that liquid electrical tape stuff. This stuff kind of glued the wires together in places where they had previously been an air gap. I've seen people recommend it in here but it brought out all kinds of electrical gremlins when I tried it.

Bad wire harness, bad ignition switch.
