High Idle after Intake manifold gasket replacement 700

Subject says it all...

I replaced the Intake mani. gasket yesterday, and the car runs 200% better now. However, in Park or Neutral, it idles (very smoothly, so its not a vacuum leak or anything of the sort) right at 1000rpm. In any other gear, its at the usual 600-750. I cleaned the IAC motor, to no effect. Any ideas?

Thanks

Robin

Reset the adaption: Ignition off, remove fuse # 1 , and put it back again. That's it.

After you pay close attention to Chris Herbst's post, check the linkage rod from the throttle spool to the butterfly valve. If this rod is misadjusted it can hold the butterfly valve open and increase the idle speed.

You can test the Idle Air Valve by pinching the hose (either in or out hose) flat. Don't damage the hase, but pinch it hard enough to stop any air flow. If extra air is going through the Idle Air Valve, this will stop the air flow and the idle will drop to almost zero. If that doesn't stop the high idle, the problem is in the throttle linkage or throttle body.

That's a 90, right?

(A 90 that has apparently gotten better looking as years pass...)

It's possible that the throttle body needs to be adjusted. I'm sure the how-to is in the 700 FAQ somewhere but anyway, you've probably done it before. Still, sometimes with a slight intake air leak, someone, somewhere, disturbs the throttle body to compensate for a strange idle condition and screws up the settings.

I would personally drive the thing around for a few days before you condemn it. Periodically an issue like this (I have run into several wiht later LH-Jet versions) will resolve itself and never return.
