My suspension is about all worn out. Took a look yesterday and noticed that I've got big, FAT struts upfront. They're black with "deCarbon" painted on them. I loved the way these made the car feel over the years but they've about had it. I looked around and can't find much on deCarbon struts and shocks. Does anyone sell these? Weren't they original equipment on 240 Turbos? Are they the same as Bilsteins or more like the Bogue Turbo Gas? Any help would be appreciated! I want my baby to ride like new again. Thanks in advance!

According to a Norwegian dealer's web page, these shocks were out of production for a while, but production is now resumed. Volvo 240 is listed as one of the cars they are making them for, along with the Amazon and the 140.

Checked the site....hard for me to read and decipher since I only know English. Will try to send them an email or something so i can find out how mcuh a new set would cost and where i can get them from. Does anybody know a link to the actual company who makes the deCarbons? I looked but can't any! Thanks in advance!

Two years ago I bought a 1984 245T, it had suspension noises so I decided to replace all shock absorbers with new bilteins. It turned out that the problem was not the shocks. The front struts that were installed in the car were DeCarbon and they were very new, I still have them and will be willing to sell them to you if you want them.

Do you happen to have the rear shocks in addition to the front struts? Thanks!

My 85 245Ti had the same deal. Those suckers did last!! Closer to Bilstein with more "give"

I think you can find them, but for mucho dinero. I have the NLA 4 way adjustable KYB's and they are not so bad....

I think deCarbons were the original performance strut used on 242GTs and sold as the Volvo R-sport struts. Turbos always came with the stock Boge/Volvo struts I think. I think the deCarbon brand struts and shocks are still available, although mainly (only?) in France. Furthermore, I seem to recall that deCarbon is the gas strut inventors name. I could be wrong on some or all of the above except the GT equipment deCarbon.

An engineering friend once told me that deCarbon were the inventors of the gas filled shock/strut. DeCarbon are supposed to very good and rebuildable. The gas keeps the oil under pressure and stops it from foaming and losing its working action.
