my 1985 740 GLE (manufactured in sweden) suffers from the crumbling wire and harness syndrome that afflicts some volvos manufactured in the 80s.


i'm looking for a good canadian source for a wiring kit so that i can replace the wiring harnesses.

additionally any electrical experts' advice is welcomed (gotchas, tips etc).

i have chilton and haynes manuals for my car and am ready to embark on this as a summer project (though letting such a fine road trip vehicle sit in the driveway all summer is painful).

do it soon before you get a short in your ecu circuits or other circuits.
a faulty wiring can kill other electrical parts

the fuse to the front fuel pump started blowing so the car is currently sitting in the driveway and won't be driven until i repair it.

only a day to replace the harness? hey even if it takes a weekend that's good news. this gives me the rest of the summer to do some light body work.

I dont have a canadian source, but the FAQs have a whole section dedicated to wiring harnesses.

I have the same model and have searched the net for prices. Best I could fine for new harnesses is $290-330US. I ordered one from Dave's site look at previous post link. Used price $160us plus shipping. I have seen previous posting of his harnesses and so far all are pleased.

the exchange rate with the US dollar will kill me but dave's is the best deal going so far. i'll try and find a canadian source and if i can't i'll order from dave.
