940 suspension is a bitch to pull apart. New Struts, new shocks, new motor mounts. 900

Never thought I'd have a kind word to say about my old 960. But at least the suspension was not unlike a FWD car to work on.

Who dreamed up this 940 shit?!?! You have to pull the whole front end apart... brakes, brackets, THE HUB(!), tie rods, ball joints, then you take the whole damned spindle and everything out with the strut housing. Whatever!

Anyway..... thanks go out ONCE AGAIN to the boys and girls up at Import Parts Specialist in Boise. "www.importpartsspec.com"

They got me hooked up with new Boge Turbo Grade Strut inserts, Boge Turbo Gas Shocks, New mounting plates and bearings, new boots and bumpers and a set of High quality German made liquid filled engine mounts to replace the limp dick OEM ones that had collapsed.

All THAT! For like $400 and something bux, delivered in 2 days.

So now I am sore and hot and tired. What did you all get done today?

Good to hear you are back mucking around the engine compartment. I think I'd have sealed mine shut had I experienced the same troubles you had.

I'd be interested in knowing how the Boge Turbos behave. Are they Hecho in Mexico or from Germany? Nick at FPC Grotten recommended the Boge Pro gas for the 960. I'm waffling....

I've got Boge turbo gas in one car; pro gas in another. Both are Turkish in origin and both have performed well. The pro gas are just a little soft for my taste; I am more of a turbo gas fan, which in turn are much nicer than my bilsteins. In a 960 with IRS, you would probably do well with the pro gas.

Yeah, the 940 isn't the best but not the worst either. I mean, there are some bad cars to work on.

Anyway, didn't you do a bunch of them on the rack? Or wait... those are 940s... so you probably didn't see many of them.

Today I went boating. And swimming. Then swimming again, from the boat. My engine mounts are flat in my own car, but I like swimming better than replacing engine mounts.

Gimme that Old Time....... Volvo 200 1980

After renewing much of the wiring under the hood of Susan's 245
yesterday I put the fuel injection system back in today (with her help).
Finally got it all pretty much back together and decided to check the
fuel delivery before installing the boot. Got fuel but only by jumpering
#5 and 7 fuses. Not much fuel either. So I rigged up a pressure gauge
to the fuel filter and found I was getting a whopping 3 psi.
(Probably what I was getting before.)
I guess next trip I'll go under and see if the main pump is doing anything
and if not, replace it. I have a spare. The more I work on these newfangled
pseudoVolvos the more I love my 122 and my 164.

At least I am learning a lot. No, my vocabulary has NOT taken a turn for
the worse. At least it was fairly cool today.

I tip my beer to you.
Leave it to you to leave no bolt unturned! Think of all that money saved doing it yourself and then the satisfaction of a job well done.

Now its time for an alignment. Which I have done myself in the garage with some huge sheets of white card board, a plumb bob, level and a tape measure. Sounds crazy but it has worked a few times.

Todays jobs? Since I am in the final stages of kitchen remodeling put a finish on the wood work, patched the dings in the walls from putting up the cabinets, made some drawer dividers for the wife, and traced a groung fault on some counter outlets. The house is almost back to normal.

Tomorrow, new timing belt, idler pulley and tensioner on the beast. If time unjam the cd player, and fix one of the cables under the driver seat. My daughter is driving now and thing are actually falling off.

Take care.

Shit....how many miles on the original mounts 'fore they collapsed??

Not a bad price. Not bad at all.

So you must own all of the "speciality" tools that are required to replace the front struts?
