carbon canister 900

Evidently my 94 945T has what is called a carbon canister on the right side near the air intake. Can't really find any definitive info on what it is used for, is there any maintenance required on it, etc. Any info anyone has would be much appreciated.

The carbon vapor canister is standard on every car and recycles the evaporative losses from the tank back into the intake manifold where they are burned. The carbon merely holds these vapors until the car is started, then intake vacuum purges the canister. No maintenance is required.
