greetings volvo gurus,

my car would always stall once or twice before it would successfully start, but i've been noticing lately that to get it started i've had to crank it longer. yesterday i went to go to work and it wouldn't start at all. it tries, makes all the 'ruh-ruh-ruh' sounds, but never actually starts. i tried it once or twice, and noticed that when the key was in the position directly before start, a buzzing noise came from behind the dash. unfortunately, i know as much about cars as i do about theoretical physics, and before i take it to the shop i'd like to know if anyone could give me an idea of what could be wrong. thanks!

    sounds like the fuel injection relay is going south.
    Replace with a working one and see what happens.

      i tracked down the relay and it has a 2001 date on it. since i only purchased the car earlier this year, i went through the maintenance receipts to verify that i was looking at the right relay, and it turns out it was replaced in 2001. could it have expired already? thanks again.

        Is it the rectangular white relay, mounted in the passenger side foot compartment?
        If so it maybe overheating, taking off the relay cover and drilling small holes for airflow may prolong the next one's life, you can resolder the old one, just ask don foster about soldering, you'll get a response.
