Ambient Temp Sensor 1990 760 GLE 700

How do I check for failure of the ambient temp sensor The A/C button light on control panel is flashing continuosly, and in code mode flashes 121. FAQ lists this code as:= Ambient Temp sensor on blower housing. short circuit to ground.
The A/C button continues to flash with plug removed from sensor. Is this fault in the control unit, or will a failed or disconnected sensor cause this code to flash. Thanks for any help.

Thanks for your reply Cullen. I could accept the continuos flashing as indicating a sytem fault, but when set to flash fault code with sensor and wire attachments to climate control unit removed, it still flashes 121=
Ambient Temp Sensor "Short circuit to ground." I can only guess that the fault is in the circuit that the sensor is connected to within the control unit?

P.S. Nice photo of your car
