89 744Ti - Jumbo Brake Upgrade? 700 1989

Is it possible to use the rotors, calipers, and pads from a later model car (say a 91 940 turbo or first gen 960?) on a 89 744Ti? I believe those cars had bigger front brakes...

is this possible, and would i need parts aside from the bigger rotors/calipers/pads?

thanks!

Hey Nate-

Find mvp volvo parts- I think it's mvprd.com. There should be a link somewhere here on the brickboard. They make the complete kit, including stainless steel hoses, to convert your car to the large brakes of the 9 series.

I don't work for these folks, and I haven't bought anything from them yet, but they get some good press around here.

Are your brakes disappointing you? My '88 and '86 both have stock brakes and I'm not really disappointed. Try upgrading to stainless steel lines before you spend a lot more- I upgraded the front lines on a 240 solid rotor car and that car braked like an F40 compared to before with the old rubber lines...

89 744Ti - Jumbo Brake Upgrade? Go for it big time! 700 1989

Put on the Porsche Big Red Calipers...or Brembo Black (or Red F50). Here's a Brembo list: http://www.upgrademotoring.com/brakes/brembo.htm

Here's a pic of a 760 with some kind of big red caliper under the wheels: http://riceornot.ricecop.com/comments.php?auto=5605

All you need are the caliper brackets off a Volvo that has the bigger (11.25") disks, and the 11.25"disks themselves. The brackets will bolt onto your car, and you can continue to use the same calipers and pads. ALOT cheaper than going the Porsche route, I'd say. have you considered just upgrading to cross drilled with carbon fibre pads? That combo is very good, and still stck sizes.
