Holy rear quarters! 200 1982

I have an '82 GLE (264); however, the engine isn't the problem. I could see the bottom of my spare tire through the hole in the driver's rear quarter, so i decided it was time for a fix. 1 can of expansion foam and 1 can of undercoating later, no more leaks or hole. However, it's looks leave something to be desired. Kinda lumpy and weird, even after re-shaping. I was thinking about fitting the lower rear plastic from a 7 series over the lower rear quarters. Any body every do/see this done? Trying to keep it looking okay without extensive cost/labor. Thanks! --Chris

I would use a fiberglass mesh patch, which can be found in the bodywork area at car parts places. It is easy to shape and cures to a very solid surface. The fiberglass also comes in pre-mixed formula, which you brush on the fiberglass mesh cloth, then apply to the body perforation. For a nice finish, add a thin layer of putty (Bondo is a tradename), let dry, sand and primer/paint.
