volvo no start why? done everything possible 200 1980

HI
would anyone know what the answer could be. I have 1980 240 that had the fuel pump change and all the switches and box that is underneath the driver side. I had taken the car to be worked at the local volvo mechanic shop. everything worked fine for the first 6 months. The tank was full. It wouldn't start today, although I had the car parked on an incline. The front of the car was facing downward. But I had left right there for 3 minutes. Before that i had already had the car warming up. does anybody have guess?

Assuming it cranks, check the connection to the fuel pump relay. It should be located under the dash on the driver's side. The connection is often bad, or the relay is intermittently faulty.

Otherwise, check your fuses. It could simply be a blown fuse for the fuel pump too (I think it is 25 amps).

My 240 also has a 25amp fuse with a holder located beside the battery under the hood. It often get very dirty and poorly contacts. I think this runs the fuel injection. Check it.

Hope this helps.

Greg

hi
yeah I forgot to say that the car does turn. but thats all it does. What I did, was I waited for ten minutes and tried again. It took two tries, but it finally turned. I have consulted the hanes manual, but nothing there. thanks

If the car was running, and stalled and won't start, )as I believe you said in your message). I would have to ask if you have had the timing belt replaced recently. (I had this happen to me once with an old 240 I had). Don't worry it won't have done any damage to your engine if it did break. An easy way to check is to pull the distributor cap off and have some crank the engine, if it is turning the timing belt isn't your problem, if it doesn't turn, time to replace the timing belt. It isn't a hard job to do yourself, if you are at all mechanically inclined. An other alternaive is that your fuel pump relay isn't working. I hope you find the problem and get back on the raod soon.
