Blinker arm goes BANG 200

I had to replace the blinker arm unit on my '87 240, and took one from a 1981-84 at the local wrecker's yard. It works OK in my car, but the problem is that it makes a very loud and nasty click when it returns -- almost like it is going to break. I didn't check how it worked in the donor car, stupid me.

Is there a way to adjust it, or should I just junk it and find another one?

Erling.

Erling -- I just did one of these myself on my '81 245 about 2 months ago. I can't remember exactly how it bolts, but it seems that if you were to put a thin washer between the arm mount and the arm assembly, it might give a bit more clearance for the pawl which gets nudged to return the arm to its center position. Certainly worth a try?

My replacement actually holds the indication far better until the steering wheel begins its return. The one it replaced would click off at the least provocation.
