Greetings and help!

I am trying to replace the tailgate struts on my 1991 740 Turbo Wag. I propped up the tailgate and
removed the tiny wire clamps from the top and bottem of the existing struts.
Now here is my problem:

I easily pulled off the tailgate end but the part of the strut that hooks on the car frame doesn't seem to want to come off. Should I force it? bang it off with a hammer?

They came off after I banged a few times with a hammer and screw driver.

The struts on mine are mounted on ball joints. There is a plastic clip that secures it in place that needs to be pried off. It is a little tight of a fit: try whacking it out to pull it off the joint.

Had to do the same on mine, hammer, me and 15 minutes. THWACK!, out and done.
