Installing a tach - questions 200 1990

Hi all,

I am installing a tach in my 90 Volvo 240. Is there any wiring involved? I noticed in some old posts about a red/white or grey wiring. Where is this located, and where does it go on the tach? I have the small clock and the wiring harness, so that should go smoothly.

TIA

It's pretty much a piece o' cake. Remove the cluster, keeping an eye on the couple of loose wires back there. Most of the wires are in circular connectors that can't be misplaced.
Remove all the phillips head screws and remove the rear circuit board from cluster. Install the black plastic spacer in the clock adjuster hole. Insert the tach and screw it all down. (Maybe check your little instrument bulbs first, if you've got any burnt out.)
Install the clock in it's hole with the rubber feet. feed the 3-wire connector over behind the cluster. Connect all the wiring. Connect the loose red/white wire to the tach terminal. Screw it all back down.
I try to wipe all the dust and dead bugs out of the cluster and surrounding dash trim while I'm doing this work, looks better when you're done.

I just did this install several days ago. The previous message pretty much covers it. The three wire harness for the clock plugs into the three upper terminals on the back of the tach, they should all be numbered correspondingly. The tach terminal is the solitary one at the bottom of the gauge. There should be a loose red/white wire right behind the instrument cluster. The wire will be gray if you have a Chrysler ignition. Removing the cluster on my '92 was as easy as prying off the trim on either side and undoing four screws, but I don't know if your '90 is the same or not. Good luck.

The late model cars have a red/white wire in the dash behind the instrument cluster. It goes on either lower tach terminal.
