I have an intermitten problem with my '88 780. From time to time (unpredictably) nothing happens (nothing) when I turn the ignition key. So far, eventually (30 to 45 minutes) it turns over and starts.

From what I can tell by wiring diagrams, the circuit is the ignition, neutral switch, starter. Moving the shifter around doesnt help. car has 150000 miles on it. Could it be the ignition switch? I like the car otherwise. It is in good shape except for usual electrical hassles (windows, seats). Thanks.

My sister-in-law just finished dealing with the identical problem. Don't leap to any conclusions, but in her case after all other causes had been eliminated the fault came down to an intermittent connection in the starter solenoid itself.

The starting circuit is that simple, just like you described. If this were my car, I would jump the neutral switch and see if the problem persists.

some times simple is good....try cleaning the battery terminals and the posts on battery. Many times on many cars exactly as you decribe, this simple attention to the battery terminals is the silly answer!
