Wet Carpet, Isador/Lilli or condensor drain?? 200 1992

I just noticed that my passenger side carpet is soaked. Having read the previous post and replies, I checked my windshield gasket and although it
barely covers much paint it is in good shape. I ran the car for 20 mins or so with the ac on and my garage floor remained dry. My theory being that maybe I have an ac drain problem vice a leaking windshield gasket. Pulled the carpet/foam backed material/sheet metal, etc. but I cannot locate where I may have a clogged condensor hose. Haynes manual was zero help. I would appreciate someone telling me how/where the condensor drains and if that is a possible source of the water in my vehicle.

Wet Carpet, Isador/Lilli or condensor drain?? 200 1992

I had a similar problem on a '90 745. Had to remove front seat and lift carpet to dry it out. If your car is configured similarly, the message below from MikeOBNR should help you find where the AC drains to the outside. There is a hose attached to the drain port on the passenger side firewall in engine compartment, which directs the condensate to the ground in my car, not all though. I removed the hose and and carefully inserted a straightened coat hanger to clear the blockage. At your own risk of course as you can do some damage. Debris can enter through the air intake in front of the windshield and make its way to the drain. See first "Interior Water Leaks: Clogged Ventilation/AC Drains" in the 700/900 FAQs before you start.

Small flapper valve is accessed from the right side of the engine compartment. It is aft of the firewall on the right side of the transmission well. You can also view this from underneith if the auto is on a lift, otherwise it is by feel from the topside.

Thanks for all of your repsonses. Found it, squeezed the hose a bit and condensation started flowing onto the exhaust from the hose. Good item to add to the preventative maint list. Have the seat removed, carpets lifted, foam pads drying, and waiting for the sun tomorrow.

        Thanks again.

Well, Houston dodged the bullet, again. Lili went elsewhere. I think there was a Houston TV news person in every town that Lili visited - at least that's what is looked like. Local ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox all had people over there.

The a/c drain hose is sneaky. If you found it and squeezed it, that's a temporary fix. Better to remove it entirely and wash it clean. There's more glop in there, believe me.

Also, note that the bottom end has a sort of flapper deal to keep stuff and creatures out. Trim off about 1/4 inch, so it doesn't close as tightly. Volvos are designed for the average humidity of Sweden, not this airborne swamp we sometimes have. The hose is easy to get back on if you smear the inside with a few drops of ATF.

BTW - that rubber thing around the windshield trim isn't the seal. If it's not tight all around, don't worry. The seal is between the body metal and the glass itself.

          Good Luck,

          Bob

Thanks Bob, you've very likely saved me from repeating this process. Since things aren't drying very fast I certainly have the time to remove the hose. I have a box fan blowing inside the car but the humidity is about at the sauna level. At least the water inside the car is clean. It could have been flood
water with critters swimming around as well as a bit of someone's septic tank contents.
