IPD exhaust comments 200 1990

My 244 needs a muffler and rear pipe and I'm considering either the IPD hi-flow or Bosal (which I have now). Looking for some pros and cons for each from the Brickboard community...

I'm particularly interested in:

1. IPD noise level between 65-80 mph compared to stock system or Bosal. I think I would enjoy the sport exhaust around town, it is highway noise I'm concerned about.
2. Longevity
3. Is the performance increase only on the upper end and does the low end suffer with the IPD system?

Thanks!

I had the iPD hi-flow exhaust (not the sport exhaust) installed on my '89 244 about a year ago. At first, I thought it was a bit loud (just because I was used to listening to my old exhaust). However, I'm glad I purchased it. Overall, it's not too loud or noisy, and I would certainly purchase another one if I ever bought another 244. Is there a performance increase after installing it? Perhaps a little bit but nothing too drastic. Same goes with the noise when driving 60+mph: you may notice a slightly noise increase, but again, it's by no means deafening. Just turn up your stereo a little louder and you won't even hear a difference. :-)

For me, 83 245 aw70, power increase is small, may actually be in my head, but I notice it.
I was worried about the noise level when i was considering the purchase, but I don't find it to be a problem. For me it is most noticeable when accelerating in the 40-50 mph range. At highway speed I don't notice it so much - as another poster said the exhaust note is mostly lost in wind and tire noise, and other wagon noises such as a squeaking tailgate.
People don't usually talk about mpg gains when they install one, so my results not be typical, but I have gotten an improvement from 23 to 26.5 after installation that I can't explain away with any other changes I've made.

The IPD sport system's noise level is definitely noticeable in the wagon, but I don't find it objectionable. The 240 has never been known for its quietness. It gets a little "boomy" around 2700 rpm, which with the M47 and 205/60-15's is about 60 in 4th or 72 in 5th, but road and wind noise at highway speeds are more pronounced.

Performance with high flow exhaust is pretty much across the board but you notice it more in the lower range. Not a big jump but you can feel it.

For a sedan the noise level wouldn't be too bad. I think it is too loud on the wagons though.
