Refusing to start on occassion 200 1988

My 88 240 has on 2 occassions now decided not to start even with many attempts, then a couple days later started on its own and continued to do so. Not the starter as it turns over normal to begin. Feeling afraid to go far...any ideas on what this could be and if it is likely to happen again soon? Any ideas would be most appreciated!

According to AAA several years ago......the number one cause of 240 tow jobs was the condition of the fuel pump fuse and contacts, make sure they are clean and shiny.

While you're at it...the big fuse on the left fender likes to crud up. Old plugs and wires have given me the same trouble in the past (rainy days only).

Sounds like the fuel pump relay to me.

Thank you much for the idea. I was reading the Garth message and your reply which is a similar situation. Though I can't do the work myself, I can know where to start!
