AW70L Transmission Question 700 1989

Have a question that will either cost me a decent amount of money of not to much at all, now keep in mind i have access to any part i need for a transmission ANY PART doesnt matter which one it is.
I recently put a used tranny in my 89 745 gl which works great on the other hands it leaking fluid from the rear ext houseing, i got curious got under there to find the tail shaft of the tranny has about a 1/16 movement to it letting the fluid leak out its not much but i prefer to keep my driveway clean if i can, anyone know what parts needs to be replace or what could be causing this, i also have a rebuilt AW70L sitting in my garage also, need the bell housing and other ext parts reass now that i am done with it also there on the one in the car now. any help here would be greatly appricated.

AW70L Transmission Question 700 1989

Sounds like you need a new output shaft bushing to tighten things up, and then a new rear oil seal to stop the leak. There are instructions in the FAQ.

Best of luck

AW70L Transmission Question 700 1989

Matt unable to locate in F&Q but thats no biggie, i believe i already know what your speaking of, the metal ( copper color from what i have seen ) round thing right behind where the rear seal goes? Or are you speaking of the one on the tranny houseing itself where the shaft also goes through before the gov? Ive never tried to get the one out on the Ext Houseing though i have tried to get one out of the actually tranny houseing itself and did some serious damage, so if its that hard to get it out of the ext houseing also any ideas on tools to use or tech that work would be greatly appricated here as i want to have this fixed and over with, i tried rebuilding the other one only to find out and this is assumption that the Tourqe Converter was bad ( was spewing the fluid right out of the front of the tranny, so i just threw that one back in the garage and get this used one from the J yard, and truly dont want to drop it again, this would seriously make probly the 10th drop of the tranny in this car. Hell my wifes 86 with the ZF is starting to act and be better then this though i know thats not true. thanks again.

AW70L Transmission Question 700 1989

Do it the cheap and easy way. Remove the whole output unit. You'll have to remove the cross member. You have to support the tranny with a jack in the middle (not under the pan). Run to a trany shop and have them press out and replace the bushing and the seal (charge 10 bucks). Install output unit with a new gasket.

AW70L Transmission Question 700 1989

This was my thought, so i will deff be doing that, i have it even better though, i happen to have 3 transmissions sitting in my garage a AW70, A AW71L and a AW70L, so ill just pull the ext houseing off the 70L and take it to them, then this weekend ill just pull the old one off and throw the other one in its place, much easyer and my car isnt down for to long. thanks goodness, thought i was going to have to go through the process of trying to rebuild the tranny again, WHEW!!
