No start when warm 87 740GLE 700 1987

Hello All,

The two problems have become very specific.
and seem to be related. As long as the temp.
stays in the lower operating range the are no
problems. It runs fine and starts fine.

Just before the needle on the temp. gauge is
strait up (where is should be) is when the
problems begin. First the idle/throtle speed
increases, and it will no start untill it cools
down. When it is cool it once again starts no
problem.

The books I have show nothing in regards
to either problem, so I am lost. Any help
will be greatly appreciated.

Mark K

I don't know to much about the hall sensor. But yeah it makes sense. If it is going out and the resistence in this sensor is too high out of spec, when the sensor heats up it will push it over the edge resistence wise, and it will cease to function until it cools down again. Ive had the experience of engine heat pushing failing electrical parts over the edge like that.

Yeah, when mine died it first showed up as no restart after warmup. I procrastinated and fiddled around w/ radio interference and FI relay, eventually got stranded after a final barbecue going up a long grade in 90 degree weather with the A/C on.

Sounds like the infamous Hall effect sensor. When it dies warm, does the tach drop to zero even if the engine is still turning? Easy to observe w/manual, harder w/auto.

I have heard that bad fuel injector seals can cause hard starting probs. DOnt quote me.
