I have a 1998 240 wagon, and i hav a broken peice of my key stuck inside my ignition and i need help getting it out.

what are my options?

Take a hacksaw blade and grind down the non-tooth side about one inch in until the thickness of the blade is about 1/16". Slide the blade in the ignition under the broken key. When you pull back, the teeth on the blade will grab the teeth on the key and pull the broken piece out.

Clever, I will have to remember this trick.

One option is to go to the junkyard and get another ignition switch.A lot of times the key is usually in it.Just switch out the whole thing,of course that "new" key won't open the doors.
Another thing you could try is to make a hook out of a big, sturdy paperclip and fish it out.

my dumbass friend in his POS renault alliance did the same thing. He used the old piece of the key, put some epoxy on the end.. and held it there for like 5-10 min.. then slowly pulled the thing out. I would try that... or if you have a portable MIG welder... weld a new key head on the thing :)

Try the same with a small drop of gel superglue.

Be careful not to get too much superglue on the key or you will never get it out.

How about a strong magnet or powerful wet/dry vacuum. I have also seen those fine, almost dentist-like hook tools at Sears that might be able to get it out....

If the key broke off it is probably a brass key. Brass is non magnetic so a magnet will not help. One could check the head of the key with a magnet if there is an attraction you may have a steel key.
