New non-sealed beam lights available. 200

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1389984152#BID1

I was hunting volvo parts on ebay when I ran across this item. Have any of you tried them yet? I was considering them instead of the cibees. Any opinions?

I have the same lights in both the '81 and '83 (4-lamp systems): Hella H4's in the hi-lo positions and std Sylvania halogen sealed beams in the hi's. The 83 has a relay on the high beams, and there is a definite improvement in light output over the '81. I don't plan on going with higher wattage, as the '83 lights the road a long way ahead, and I get oncoming cars flashing me from quite a distance as it is, and have to switch to low beams. I've owned or rented a lot of cars and the '83 lights the road better than any. Relays are in the job jar for the '81.

I too was looking for a way to get better light than the sealed beams without dropping 60 or more per lamp. (This was for an '83 with quad 4x6.5)

I ended up getting the stanleys that daniel stern offers on his site at $25/ea. for my hi/lo and initially keeping the sealed beam hi. That gave an improvement over the xtravision sylvanias. I have the standard bulbs in the H4's.
Last weekend I finished my wiring/relay project and noticed more improvement.
The next step for me could be replacing the Hi lamps (although I don't use them all that often) or going to higher wattage bulbs in the H4 now that I have the wiring to allow it.

I'm no lighting expert, but personally I stay away from anything that says "blue".

Joe

Sounds like a bunch of marketing hype (ie: bullshit) to me. Blue tint is NOT the same as the blue effect given by the HID lights. Instead go with a good set of H-4 and H-1 lights from Hella or Cibie.

I fully agree with that, halogen lights but out VERY little light in the blue spectrum, and when you put a blue fliter on the lights... hence you get very low light output. Get some nice cibie or hella H4 lights. You can get them at IPD or someplace like that.

These don't appear to be DOT approved. If your state enforces DOT lighting code
then you'll have to take them out for inspection. I have used Hella and Cibie
H4 lights and they are much better than stock. Some states don't care and you
won't have any problem. For a replacement sealed beam try the Sylvania Xtra
Vision. If you are going to buy H4 lights then try using Daniel Stern Lighting.
The Cibie H4 lights he sells are very good.
