head rests 120-130

There is a pair of headrests for 122's for sale on E-bay.

It is claimed that they will fit on any 120 or 140 from '66 on, but I don't see how they could go on my 1966 122 - I can't feel any frame to which they might attached .. so I am skeptical.

Can anyone provide guidance on whether such head-rests could be installed on my '66 ?

My lovely wife's main concern with my car (other than fact that I spend way too much time/money on it) is that my head will snap off if the car gets rear-ended. So I am committed to finding seats with headrests. If those on E-Bay could be installed, then maybe I can by them for myself as a Christmas present to my wife ?!?!

thanks

tim

head rests...good idea!

Tim;

Whats the item number on those? I did a quick check and didn't see them, so until I see them, I have no opinion...

I have successfully installed 140 headrests (with the two posts) into my 122 for the same reason that you're concerned. It does require stripping the covering of the seatback frame and having two tubes welded onto the frame to accept the tubes of the headrests...yes, its a bit of a job, but if you are commited to the car it's highly advisable.

There is one other solution...there exist aftermarket headrests with a (downward opening C shaped holding frame) which slipps over front and back of the seatback...its not nearly as neat of an installation, but it doesn't require ripping the seatback apart either. I don't have any source or manuf. info handy, but if interested, I could do some digging, or maybe someone reading this will chime in with info...

Cheers

Tim;

I just found the ebay headrests: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6763&item=1873449916

...they would work on a 122, and require opening the seatback up to install the mounting tubes.

Cheers

Hi Tim,

These can be bought new along with the appropriate fitting kit in a choice of colours from Nordicar in the Netherlands (www.nordicar.com) - see page 2 of their online parts photos for an idea of their appearance. If you email Frank (parts@nordicar.com) he'll quote for them as well as for postage to the U.S. He had them in stock earlier this year so I guess he still does. It might be worth mailing Mikael at cvi-automotive (info@cvi-automotive.se) for a quote as well and see who's cheaper - they're not listed in his parts list but they should be available. They may be cheaper on ebay so it boils down to price and whether the ebay ones will match your upholstery. You can always buy the ebay ones and buy new replacement vinyl covers from either of the above. I think that the part numbers for the headrests and fitting kits are :
680126 - headrest
672020 - outer sleeve
672021 - inner sleeve
672017 - washer
672016 - nut
672018 - lock sleeve
672015 - nut

Obviously there being two legs per headrest you'll need quadruple quantities of the nuts, washers sleeves etc. Best to quote your chassis number as well to clear up any doubts about the suitability of the seats for this conversion.

Hope this helps - let me know if you need any more info.

thanks for the lead

the E-bay set came & went over the holiday (for $150) & I missed out. oh well

I got a quote from nordicar for the headrests + install kit (200 Euro + 27 for shipping to Baltimore) which seems a relatively small price to pay for my head remaining attached to my neck.

No, they won't really fit into 122 seats. I believe you can take the seats from a 140 and put them in... maybe even from a 240. I need to find out soon, for the seats in the 122 are completely shot. I took the headrests out of the 145, though, for increased visibility and so you can crawl around from the front to the back easier while camping/road tripping/sleeping (It has curtains all the way 'round). Sort of oxymoronic, but in my girlfriend's 145 she had seats from a 240 with those big, solid, slotted headrests and she covered them up with sheepskin seatcovers so it was really hard to see anything. She ran into stuff all the time, but at least she was *safe*

I installed 240 seats in my 65 122S ... FAR more comfortable for long trips ... and have the heardests already built in .... I have the original 122 seats in storage ... but really do not anticipate them ever being re-installed ...
