Decode VIN for a '84 245 GL Wagon In NC Junk Yard? 200

OK Guys. I finally got the VIN and price on that Wagon in the junk yard...

Here is what I know since my last post on this:

1884 245 GL Wagon VIN: YV1AX8857E1576842
The line above the VIN is: 245 E1 576842

It is complete except for the front and rear passenger light assembelies. The seats are pretty trashed. I dont see any rust problems. Tires are gone... It has "Turbine" type alloy wheels and electric windows... The paint looks pretty good but it has a few scrapes / scratches. I can't remember, but I believe it has about 180K miles

I have no idea what is wrong with it, but it has salvage on the title. I called the NC DMV and I would have to present it before the DMV Inspector before I could register it and get tags. Salvage can never come off the title.

My idea was to try to get it for $100 - $150 delivered and use the wheels and some interrior trim pieces in my '86 240 DL wagon. Then later on use whatever I could off of it as needed for my current wagon. But several folks on the board said I should keep it intact and maybe try to get it going...

Can you guys tell me anything more from the VIN? Are the motor and tranny usable in my wagon? Is there anything special about this Volvo that would merrit trying to save it? I can't see that it is worth putting much into if the salvage cannot be removed from the title...

Anyone nearby (NC Piedmont) want to go in on it for parts?

Thanks for the help,
Will

See:

The car is just as you say, and made at the Torsland plant. I would not stick an old B23 in your B230F car though. '83-84 240s are a dime a dozen. Maybe the AMM?ECU convinced the owner to junk it. Or a spun bearing, all things seen with B23s.

Is it worth fooling with, how much could be used except for the engine? 200

Apart from the inferrior motor... How much of it could be used in my '86? Pumps / alternator / transmission / AC...

Would the locks be interchangeable with my '86? This relates to my other post... ;)

Would any of the body be parts be interchangeable?

How much would the wheels be worth alone?

Thanks again...
Will in NC

I'm not sure the cruise would be so great for an '86-89 car which used an entirely different system based on teh electronic speedo. And the 14" turbine styled "Corona" wheels are not very popular with people wanting to upgrade to alloy wheels. Still, an awful lot on the car is interchangeable and that is one of the nicest things about the 240.

You can put all the power lock motors, window motors, door panels, armrests, and any other interior stuff into your 86. The seats are different, mainly in the headrest and backrest design but they'd bolt into the floor the same way. If it was me, I'd grab the tach and small clock, the door panels, armrests and motors, and call it a day. The AMM in the '83-84 cars is weak, and it costs more than that car is worth. The 86-88 cars are better built (except for wiring harnesses) and have the better engine and transmission.
You may want to grab the glovebox and parking brake cover if they're any good, those both wear out on all 240s. Also get the driver's window glass if the bottom metal edge is not screwed up. Sooner or later you'll need one. Grab the cruise control parts if there is one on it too.
