What's the correct order to bleed the brakes on an 81 240? I found six bleeder screws total, two on each front caliper and one on each rear. I suspect there is a correct order to bleed. I'm flushing and replacing all the old fluid. Thanks in advance.

I think Jerry's procedure is pretty much what I remember given in the Haynes manual, if it ever warms up I'll go out to the garage and check. This thing has such a convoluted procedure because there are actually two hydraulic circuits per caliper. I think it's sort of like the left front inner runs off one circuit along with one of the rear outers, or something like that.

Relly a good design once you think about it, it seems that if one of the two hydraulic circuits was to fail you would still get "some" braking on all four corners.

This is just speculation...

If you this method you shouldn't have any problem in the order listed.

1. Drivers side rear nipple
2. Drivers side front upper nipple
3. Passenger side front upper nipple

4. Passenger side rear nipple
5. Passenger side front outer lower nipple
6. Passenger side front inner nipple
7. Drivers side outer lower nipple
8. Drivers side front inner nipple

Volvo's official 240 'Brakes Repairs and Maintance' manual says lf,rf,rr lr. It covers 240's from 1976-. There should be three bleed screws on each front caliper. Good luck! This is a repost as originally reversed front wheel order. manual says:lf,rf,rr,lr.

Thanks. I guess the wheel has to be off to find the third bleeder screw up front. I'll keep looking. I need to take the wheels off to give the brakes a good inspection anyway.
