740t Hydraulic or cable for clutch and Engine compartment pics please. 700 1988

I'm in need of pics of the 740t engine compartment. I'm not familiar with what goes where and when I pick up my '88 next week I'd like to have a point of reference as to what might be aftermarket or non-standard in the car. The Haynes manual doesn't have a good photo of the B230FT in the car but does have a good shot of the V-6 powerplant.

I've already determined by the photo I have of my car that the heated air hose that runs from the exhaust manifold to the airbox is missing. I can carry a new one but it also appears that the riser (shroud) that should be on the manifold is missing.

If anyone has any .jpgs of their 740t please email them to me at

erwin_roman@hotmail.com

Also, I'm going to carry a spare throttle cable but don't know if the clutch is operated by cable or is hydraulic. I'll buy a clutch cable if that's what it takes.

Thanks,

Erwin,

As John had said, I would recommend leaving the pre-heat hose off. I have seen many Air mass meters go bad because of the airbox thermostat sticking as John described. Anyway, I wouldn't bother replacing it.

Turbo cars have a hydraulic clutch. They are trouble free.

The preheat hose has turned out not to be needed in the real world. The preheat flapper valve in the aribox is notorious for sticking to the preheat side which gives the AMM hot air that is said to shorten its life.

I can send you all the pictures you need, but I won't even bother sending them to a hotmail account. You can message me directly and tell me what pictures you want and I'll send them to an account that will accept larger files.

Thanks for the reply John. Reassuring news about the heated air hose and the clutch. Regarding the pics, you're right about hotmail. Please email to my work address:

eroman@wkno.org

Should be no problems there and I'll check the mail Monday when I go in.

BTW, Looking through my Haynes book, I don't see that the fuel pump relay is in the fuse / relay block behind the ashtray with the rest. An ommission on their part or is it located somewhere else?

Thanks,

I'll take a few pictures later today. The fuel pump relay is white, and on the left hand side of the middle row of relays. You can find a picture of it in the 700/900 FAQ. The fuel pump relay is probably okay, but they are a known source of trouble. If you want a spare for your trip, message me directly. The Radio Suppression Relay can also give trouble, but it is less likely. When you pick the car up, check the Hall effect connector and make sure it is not dangling by it's wires from the distributor. Don't pull on it, just feel carefully.
