Overdrive Problem, Manual Trans 200 1981

When I first got the car the overdrive worked fine. Shift into 4th gear hit the button, light comes on and OD kicks in. Now I hit the switch, no light, no OD. If the relay is bad, does it keep the light from coming on? The switch checked out ok.

Thanks,

The fuse would be first suspect if your shifter has the slider button, followed by a broken wire near the bottom of the shifter.

If the shifter has the push button, the fuse first( if the fuse looks good just roll it in the socket to clean the contacts), then the 4th gear switch on the right side of the transmission. Next time this happens, pull the shifter further to the right and rear to put more pressure on the switch. If the OD light comes on you will need to change the switch. Be aware that when you let up on the shifter the OD most likely will disengage.

Thanks guys, I meant to put that in my first post. The fuse was the first thing I checked. One of the first things I did after buying the car was to clean all the fuse contacts and replace all the fuses in the car (this isn't my first 240, LOL). I've also tried the "wiggle the shifter" test to no avail. I guess it's time to crawl under the tranny and check things out.

Thanks again.
