The fuse would be first suspect if your shifter has the slider button, followed by a broken wire near the bottom of the shifter.

If the shifter has the push button, the fuse first( if the fuse looks good just roll it in the socket to clean the contacts), then the 4th gear switch on the right side of the transmission. Next time this happens, pull the shifter further to the right and rear to put more pressure on the switch. If the OD light comes on you will need to change the switch. Be aware that when you let up on the shifter the OD most likely will disengage.
