fuel pressure regulator 200 1989

I just received my new fuel pressure regulator (fpr) from fcp groton, bosch.
Anything I need to know prior to replacing my existing one (on my 240 sedan '89)?

I noticed one hose was clamped, should come out easy. I don't think the other has a clamp. How do I remove it?

The swap over is very easy. I'd put an old Tee shirt under it. you're gonna leak some fuel. Watch your eyes. when the 'O' ring comes out of the rail you might get a small spritz

Thanks Tony, you remember me, you send me the faxes with the pictures for the sending unit... Thanks again.

I received my stuff, including the sending unit and pre-pump stuff, hopefully maybe next week sometime if it warms up a bit.

Hello Greg:

You may want to depressurize your fuel system as per the 700/900FAQ instructions (pulling a fuel pump fuse). I did mine after the car sat for more than a day.

Remove the vacuum line, loosen the big nut olding the FPR into its mount. Remove the fuel return line (the one with the clamp). Then crack the two nuts attaching it to the fuel rail (use opposing wrenches). Installation is the reverse of removal.

If you needed a fuel pressure regulator, you need plugs now. Might as well do them while you have the hood open!

P.S. So how's your volvo holding up with this COLD? My 240 is a tank, my 940 GLE (16V) is a tank, my brother's newer 850 turbo had frozen gas this morning... some antifreeze and idling cured it up...

P.S. your 740 GLE is a 16v B234F like my 940 GLE? You know about the oil pump pulley bolt issue huh? I suffered it last summer. Bent valves etc... Dealer quoted a crazy 5.5K CAN$, assholes. My local mechanic did a perfect rebuild, cost me 2K. Good savings. I bitched to Volvo about this issue, they did nothing. They suggest a timing belt adjustment after 5K miles of a new belt. A replacement oil pump pulley bolt (4$) will be done every srping time now :)

Hi Greg:

Usually when the fuel pressure regulator dies, it is because the membrane inside fails, and the pressure is no longer regulated by engine vacuum. Instead it goes to full pressure all the time, resulting in a rich running condition, which in turn fouls plugs.

My 760 is doing fine in the cold ever since I replaced the FPR and plugs. Before the work it would start, but would run roughly, smoke and miss until all 6 cylinders fired. After that it ran OK but rich. Now it starts up reliably even in this weather. It gets used mostly for short run city stuff too...

My car has the B280F 2.8l v6, which has its own quirks, but thankfully it has a timing chain rather than a belt!
