Help!!!!!! Need help with Water Pump and associated parts. 200

Well Inga, my old faithful 1986 245 DL 150k+ had some trouble today.

She threw both fan belts going to the water pump. The Alt is belt free also. Got really hot before I noticed and got her off the freeway. The water pump feels really tight. Has anyone else had the Water Pump Bearing go out? There has been an extra squeal under the hood. The alt is pretty new. I don't want to put on new belts and have it eat them again. By the way, no warning light on the Alt!

Any ideas? You guys have never steered me wrong yet.

PS: Started it back up after in cooled down and no miss. So it looks like the head did not warp (I hope). It was running kind of rough, but there was water everwhere. Ran better a couple of hours later.

Any tricks to the water pump, the fan looks kind of strange to get off. Of course it was dark, the car was hot, and I was depressed.

Fan comes off by the four nuts (10mm, i think) on the engine side of the fan where it connects to the belt pulley. Then take the fan and clutch off by weaving it through the opening and then remove the shroud. If your shroud is really beat up, you may be able to get the shroud off first, but if not you stand a chance of gouging the radiator. Oncw they are of the pulley comes off and the H2O pump is exposed. If you find oil on the top pump O-ring seal, take a look at the front cam seal leaking. Good idea to do thermostat, hoses and coolant at the same time. Also start out with loosing the belts on alt and A/c if needed.

The back side of the water pump has a bolt into a flange on the heater pipe. Be sure to remove when trying to get pump off. Also, some pumps come with crappy gaskets - get a fel-pro and some ultra grey rtv. Pump should come with two new o rings.

Just did my 84 last night/ other suggestions good but remove timing belt cover 4 bolts 10 mm makes process much easier. pull up on the pump when tighting hold down bolts to insure that upper seal does its job. assemble the heater pipe last to insure good alignment and seal. use a quality gasket is important for longevity. last pump i did has over 80000 miles on it without a drip.
