I stopped by a large and reputable Volvo dealer yesterday. Prognosis on 140 parts availability is not so good, Hopefully, it is not so bad.
I wanted brake caliper rebuild kits. NLA No Longer Available. Remanufactured calipers available at approx $110/pop, not including core charge. Turns out NAPA has caliper rebuild parts so for about $64, I ordered a complete set of caliper piston seals and dust boots.
Flex brake hoses (6 total required) are about $35-$40/pop at Volvo, and only a bit less at NAPA. --Fortunately, on looking more closely, my ATE flex hoses are in excellent shape. It was the undercoating overspray that made 'em look nasty and cracked. I'll give 'em a good cleaning and then shmeer 'em up with silicone grease to help prevent ozone attack.
Large molded rubber hose between filler neck and gas tank, NLA at Volvo. I'll have to start scrounging the used Volvo parts places. If any of you have a spare gas tank fill hose for a '70 145, give me a shout at adheurle@accessbee.com. Maybe NAPA has some kind of generic gas rated large diameter flex hose, I'll have to ask.
B20 cam gear only available in steel any more at Volvo. Only purchasable as a set of gears at $233.20. I think I'll hold off on that one.
I've tried a couple of times to contact the folks at Swedish Engineering be website and by e-mail. Don't know what is up with them. Maybe you have to call?
Parts availablility for old Volvo is a bit slim at IPD.
Can you recommend any other sources?
Appreciate your help !
Later,
Al
