SRS Light on- after cleaning engine... help! 900

I cleaned my engine with degreaser and washed it off with water. Since then, the SRS light has come on and has not gone off.

I used the AB diagnostic boxes to check fault codes and it comes up with 1-1-2 (internal fault in the sensor unit). I have tried to reset the fault code and it does not seem to reset, as the light contimues to stay on.

What could have happened to cause this fault. It happened immediately following the cleaning of the engine so I feel as though this is the culprit in some way.

Any advice in tracing this and curing problem is GREATLY appreciated!

Sincerely,

Scott

That's bizarre. The only thing that I see that has anything to do with the SRS unit, is the battery connection itself. The SRS system is really voltage sensitive. If it tosses a code, it wont' erase.

You might, as steve said, clean the battery terminal connections, and check the SRS related fuses in the car. You never know what's going on with those either. Then try resetting the lamp again. There is almost certainly some relation to the SRS fault and your washing the engine, but it is an unusual correlation.

Disconnect the battery, remove the cover to the sensor unit, disconnect the electrical connector, clean the contacts with deoxidizing spray (Caig Labs DeOxIt) and reconnect. I don't think I would use grease because of the low voltages from wheel sensors.
