External Voltage Regulator? Voltage drop 200

I have a 1983 244T. I sent a post regarding voltage drop while the lights are on or when driving. It was suggested that this could be due to heat and an external voltage regulator would fix this problem.

Where can I find an external voltage regulator for this car? or are we talking about an IPD sold adjustable voltage regulator?

Thanks all,

Lawren

External Voltage Regulator? Voltage drop 200

Thanks for the information. I bought one from Dave Barton. It raises the voltage some, but it still goes down to about 12.5-13 volts with lights on and engine running after several minutes of driving. It starts at about 14 volts max then slowly goes down.

I can't figure this one. I will once again go to Sears to get the system checked.

I'm tired of replacing batteries and alternators every year or so.

Lawren,

It does not sound like you have a problem, every car I've ever owned the voltage starts out high and drops off with time and heat. After start-up the battery is at it's weakest, gets max voltage until it is replenished, then voltage tapers off, I think thats the way the system is supposed to work. Your 12.5-13 volts with the lights on sounds good to me, you only need to stay ahead of the batteries 12 volts. I think your O.K.
