I would go by the amperage draw of the motor. If it is below 10 amps and the maker is claimingg 2500 cfm, beware. I would go with something having at least around 12 amps draw once running (more on start up) on a turbo motor. I don't worry so much about the noise. If noise is critical, curved blades are quieter. But not as efficient, so you have to factor that in. I used a Scotts 16 inch Terminator fan for about 5 years on my 745T with good results, and a Flex a Lite M150 on my 83 242T for about 10 years with good results, and am trying twin Spal 11 inch on the larger radiator I recently put in my 745T. These will draw over 20 amps and may be more than I need.

I have had Mr. Gasket fan on my 245Ti for four years with zero problems. I mainly like it because it mounts perfectly on the Nissens radiator. Looks stock even.

I never thought about noise too much, so it must not be that loud. I mean to move a lot of air it will make some noise - this is a good thing! In the winter here the fan never even comes on and the temp. gauge just stays normal at 1/4-1/3 from the base.

I've never installed either type but if anyone would like to see the units being discussed you can find them here:

Enter "electric fan" in their search box for all the different types available.
I'm not sure which size best fits the RWD Volvo radiator, but it can probably fit all but the "large truck" applications.

Thanks for the input,I am currently using a Spal 16" medium performance on the 89 turbo and it fits like a stock unit and it clears the pump pulley by an inch,it does make a fair amount of noise so I checking into the others for an alternative for lower noise levels, the Spal is a 16" 1600cfm output and draws 13 amps and I have never had a problem for cooling,I did have a Spal 16" 2350 cfm high performance fan previous but it draws around 20 amps and it was a bit much with lights and air conditioning on at a stand still. My wifes 740 with the b234f motor even has more clearance so I could run a wide curved blade "Tri-Pac"fan which is whisper quiet and moves the same amount of air as the Spal unit,at 4" tall it is too tall for the turbo however;so my search continues for the turbo.

Scott, does the Spal work with the stock shroud, or did you have to eliminate it?

Vinraz,Spal says the fan works better without the stock shroud,so I mounted to the stock holes where the stock shroud bolted to.
