A/C control vacuum actuator replacement 900

The vacuum actuator is bad on my '92 965, and I also experienced this on a '94 964 that I owned for a while. It cost me something like $800 to have it replaced, and all but $80 was labor. So, I am wondering if any of you have experience in replacing this item, and if so, what advice you might be willing to offer. I have read the "fix" on the 700/900 FAQ, but didn't get the idea that I would be happy with that as a solution. I expect that it would be a highly tedious effort, but have no feel for the complexity/risk. Thanks in advance!

A/C control vacuum actuator replacement 900

I only wish to have known about this web site when the vacuum valve went bad on my car. I did it the long way, which involved removing the whole dashboard down to just bundles of wires. There has been many on this board that have repaired their cars per the FAQ. The next time if needed I will try the shortcut. Just my 2 cents.
