I was wondering if someone could please tell me how to remove the TD-6141 from my 1990 Volvo 740 GL.
Also, someone may have an answer to the problem that I am having with it. Only the rear, driver-side speaker works properly. The front driver-side speaker sounds good when it works, but it only works intermitently. The front, passenger side speaker also only has sound intermittently and the sound is shrill, not very full. The rear, passenger-side speaker will always play some sound, but its sound is also very shrill.
I just removed the front, passenger-side panel and cleaned the speaker connectors, but that did not help. Using a voltage meter, I tested the wires to that speaker and it was extremely low (about 7.3 microvolts!!) Oh, and I am aware of the adjustments that can be made to shift the balance between front/back and left/right speakers, so it is not a case of me having thrown all the sound to one side or all to the front or back.
I believe that the speakers are all likely fine, but that the radio is the problem. I would like to remove the radio and clean the contacts and see what that does. Could the problem also not be in the radio, but in the amplifier that I have been told that Volvo uses with that radio and I believe is lovated below the steering column??
At any rate, a friend of mine is giving me an after market stereo that is only a couple of years old that he had in his 1989 Volvo 740 Wagen. If I am not able to repair my TD-6141, then I will try installing my friend's old after market radio.
Any advice on any of these issues - but primarily on removing the TD-6141 would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
