Do all 200s use York Compressors 200 1980

Hi

I'm in the process of adjusting the belt on the 244 again - I hate it. I wonder why don't they have an adjustable idler pulley like just about every other car in the world. My compressor is on its last legs as well.

My question is, did they all mount the same. Also, did all come with the primitive York compressor. Or did some use rotary or 5 cylinder compressors. I'm thinking that if I went the route of changing the compressor again, I might as well do it properly if there is an alternative.

thanks

Alan:
go to your local junkyard..search for an 85 or newer 240. Remove ALL the mounting stuff for the rotory Diesel-Kiki compressor and the power steering apparatus. Mount these on your 240 and be happy forever!!

Change it! You will need the big aluminum mount bracket form an '85-on 240, the power steering pump and reservoir (later cars use two types and either will do) and the low pressure hose from the donor car. I have done several cars this way. Only i f you have a turbo, you need the modern PS pump/reservoir from a 90-on due to space limits. Toss that York and iron bracket as far as you can.

If you have a 200 turbo do you need the compressor and mounting bracket from a 90-on too? Or the post 85 compressor and bracket with the 90 on power steering set-up?
Sounds like a worthwile swap seeing as my compressor is dead or dying.
Thanks for the idea.

Sorry for the confusion. All the swaps use the 85-on bracket from any 240 (not the '85 244Ti though) but not the similar bracket off a 7 series. Now as for power steering, that is a separate issue but either the 85-89 pump/remote reservoir or the 90-93 combo pump/reservoir will work in a non-turbo car. In a turbo car there is no room to mount the reservoir so the combo pump reservoir is great. So to summarize, if you have a turbo 240, toss the Saginaw power steering, the iron bracket on the block and the York monstrosity and mount the bracket from any newer 240, a rtary compressor and the 90-on power steering pump.

Thanks for the info. I've been seeing a few of the newest 240s in the yards lately, so hopefully I can scrounge the parts and get the AC working before the summer. And I could really use some extra room around the intake plumbing.
Thanks again.
