Cam Gear Steering Rack 200 1983

Fellas:
During my visit to the pick & pull yard, I came across a remanufactured cam gear rack. The yard wanted $30. I could not pass up on such a deal. Judging from the absence of build up crud on the rack, it is probably safe to assume that it was installed not too long ago. My question is: what is the proper way of installing this rack? I have not done this type of job and I would like to know details like if it is necessary to bleed the system, some tricks of the trade and the likes. Also, how do I know if my rack needs replacing? It's leaking a small amount of fluid now and after I replaced all the front end bushings, tie rods and ends, balljoints and struts not too long ago, I still have this faint clunk sound when I turn the wheel to almost the limit. Could that connected to a faulty rack? Thanks in advance.
Denny

If everything else is tight, the clunk could be the top strut bearing... unfortunately that means taking them apart again. No fun as you know.
If the leak isn't too bad I would live with it...
the rack will basically bleed itself if you work the wheel lock to lock a bunch of times...
Installation is pretty straightforward though the U-joint may require a little encouragement to separate. As you know the lines are probably the hardest thign to deal with. Clean everything thoroughly with brake cleaner or similar to avoid getting dirt into the hydraulics- nothing will kill it faster than that.

Bentley has a description about removing the rack and reinstalling.
