Front Passenger Side Clunk 700

Well... I know they're a lot of posts about front end clunks here. But this seems to be a problem unlike any of the others here... here's my problem... I have a clunk front end on the passenger side. It's a very metallic clunk... it occurs when:
A. Hitting bumps 25mph... provides brief deep clunk.
B. Going >40MPH and turning left AT ALL... provides a repetitive clunking... CLUNK, Clunk, Clunk. Very brief and very quickly repeated.

... ANY IDEAS PLEEEEEAAAASSSEEE... Save my sanity!

Thanks!
Joe

If the large "gland nut" that holds the shock in the strut tube has worked loose, you'll get a clunk as the shock moves within the strut. I'd say this is unlikely but it's fairly easy to check. Jack the involved side, remove the wheel and tap on one of the tabs of the gland nut with a large screwdriver and hammer in a clockwise direction and see if it moves. If it does, continue to tap it until it's tight. Good luck

Get the pry bar.... check your ball joints. Sounds similar to the noise our 88 made before replacing one really bad ball joint.
Shaking the wheel by hand is NOT sufficient force to find the worn part.
Good luck!

Simplest first. Have you checked your lug nuts?

Yup... checked those... I also had one of my buddies check to see if it could be the bearings... he's a sprint car racer/mechanic and he's very good with cars. I took him for a ride... he didn't think it was bearings/struts. The funny part is that he couldn't figure it out? Well I checked the bearings by tugging at the wheel with my hands/feet... no clunk/play. I also tried giving it the good ol' jumping on the bumper test to see if it was a strut... but Aye Roll could be right... I haven't checked ball joints?... Any other ideas... I read a post that it could be brake caliper... doesn't seem to be so... but not eliminating the possibility.

Does that help? Thanks!

Joe

If it's not a loose wheel, bearing, brakepad or caliper, strutmount or radius arm bushing I'd do as suggested and pull out the prybar.

I have a clunk in my passenger front also but am pretty sure it's the strutmount. I'll be replacing them with along with the shocks and strut inserts when the weather turns nicer.

Good luck,
