oil cooler will it direct fit? 200

Hi all, a junk yard has a turbo VOLVO,dont know what year or engine. It has a air cooled oil cooler, with all hardwhare and lines and lil, radiater and mounts.

Would the adapter for the oil cooler lines fit the B230F engine, the adapter is inbetween the oil filter and the block, every thing seems to be in good shape and, I do alot of hi way driveing.THANKS for any help.

While we're on the subject, can a Transmission cooler from a 760 be used on a 240?

I've noticed that the Oil Cooler on 240 turbos mounts to the left side of the radiator (driver's side for those in North America) and there's an identical spot open on the opposite side of the radiator. I've noticed a 760 car that had a tranny cooler mounted in this location and it looked identical to the oil cooler on the far side of the radiator. (matched pair of coolers) Can this setup be fit to a 240? I'm very curious. (Assume that I can plumb my own lines for the tranny)

I managed to acquire a partial tranny cooler off an older 240 diesel, but it is like a mini-radiator and it mounts in front of the existing radiator near the horns. It also had no thermostat valve. I probably won't install it.

Thanks and God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.

It will fit to the block, but you must remember to get the hollow stud which holds the oil cooler adapter to the block. If I remember correctly the hollow stud has straight pipe threads. A pair of channel lock pliers or vice grip piers will usually remove the hollow stud.

Thanks,I dont know what you mean, can you tell me where this hollow tube is.
Is it for alinment of the adapter and is it inbetween, the adapter and block. Does it align the adapter up to the block, and is there a gasket that im going to need for the adapter to block? Sorry to ask so many questions, and THANKS!!

The hollow tube is what goes through the center of the oil cooler adapter. It has a nut which holds the oil cooler adapter to the block. The oil filter then screws onto the threaded part of the stud which protrudes out of the oil cooler adapter. There is already a much shorter one on the engine which protrudes from the engine block for the oil filter to screw on.

The oil cooler adapter uses a large o-ring to seal against the block. The o-rings usually start to leak after 4-5 years and need to be replaced.

Thanks, that is the info I needed,I would hate to put it together with the old gasket. I see what the hollow tube is for.I probly would of left that on the engine, not realizing I needed it.THANKS!!

The Thermostat and the oil cooler are universal for all Volvo turbos. The cooler lines are not. 700 series lines are routed differently because they have hydraulic engine mounts, so they will not fit a 240 (they go right where the 240 mount is). So you need specifically 240 turbo oil pipes, and hoses (yes the hoses are even different lengths). I would not bother if you did not have a turbo. They are on turbos because the turbochargers heat the oil up so much. If regular 240s needed one Volvo would have put them on.

No it is not a 700 series car that this air cooled oil cooler is from. It is a 244t I should of menchiond that, sorry.
It has a value,it lets one have more oil in the car,it also cools the oil better than the pan can. Witch,is a no brainer, for the the state I live in FL.The roads have radiant heat, so by putting a cooler up high and away from the hot road is a good way to protect from (thermal brake down of the oil).No it is not needed but wanted, much like the gauges and rims. Not to mention that oil, brings the heat from the engine to the pan to cool, from the internal parts that move and the water is not near(bearings, crank, cam)this would only help and,it is always nice to have a cooler running engine ingeneral. Thanks for info.
