Where to locate r134 fill valve when doing retrofit? 200 1987

Have completed the r12 to r134 a/c conversion (volvo kit). Any one know where the filler valve ("t") is installed? Low side at the compressor inlet? High side after the receiver/dryer?

(Man, that compressor is difficult to remove/install!)

Thanks!
Ron

The Volvo kit doesn't come with a low side filler port, the T that comes with it is for the high pressure side gauge and goes on the drier ( outlet side to hose ) .
Do not try to fill from the high side port.

To put a low pressure fil port on you'll need to go to a parts store and get a low side port adapter ( about $4-8 ) and screw that onto the low side port on the back of the compressor.

That better be a low side specific (blue) fitting so it goes on the low side, the only side you ever fill from. Is that what we are talking about here? You can fill at the port on the compressor, although the higher mounted ports are nicer to work with.

Thanks for the information. I located it correctly (dryer outlet) but it didn't make sense to fill from there. I guess I was looking for convenience since it is so difficult to reach the low side fitting on the compressor. Have you seen any modified installations that have a fill connection more easily located? A "T" in the evaporator return line maybe?

Just about any shop that makes up custom AC hoses could make you one ( take out the big hose and bring it in and they can make up a new hose using your end fittings and put a fill port where you want it) it won't be cheap.
