why do things break just AFTER I leave? 200 1989

so I just drove home today from Waterloo, Ontario to Bluffton, Ohio (5 hour drive)after returning to canada from a wonderful month in Europe. Anyways, My '86 240 made it home no problem, but my girlfriend's 240, which is still in Waterloo with her, now has issues, of course just hours after I left. It is having problems idling...apparently it drives ok, but when she comes to a stoplight or something it sputters for a bit then dies. basically the idle just doesn't work. So what are most likely causes? my first guesses are IAC valve or throttle body position sensor? Her dad thinks it might be the catalytic converter, but I don't know. It's an '89, so it has the wonderful diagnostics thing, but it hasn't been checked yet. any good ideas? Thanks agian in advance

Read the FAQ's for the Air Mass Meter test..i suspect this. It could also be the infamous ECU. I have to replace my 89's with a good rebuilt one. but do the AMM test ( a la Brickboard FAQ's for the 700 series).
    buena suerte,

    Possibilities:
Either a vacuum hose has come off or the intake air hose has gotten a hole in it. Or perhaps the coil wire has simply worn through against the PS pump and is grounding out sometimes. Or the in-tank pump has died. Is it by any chance real low on fuel when it does this?
Could also be the throttle body is just real dirty. Serviced that recently?
