Well, I had a long discussion today with a guy who bought the IPD springs for his 242 (81 turbo)... it's too low in his opinion for everyday use. At least around here where we have to deal with potholes, drainage things at every driveway, and general lousy conditions of roads.
I saw the car and I have to agree- side by side with my stock 87 it's 2 inches lower. very stiff though. I wonder if the wagon springs would give it more stiffness without dropping it so much?

The 2 inch drop causes the exhaust and the ends of the car to scrape quite a bit. I've been considering the IPD springs but now I think I'll look for something else- I do not want to lower the car as much as their kit does.

the problem im having is that i dont think that the ipd kit will lower my car enough. i recently put 16 in alloys for an s70 on it and the car sits way too high for my opinion. but if i have to go with ipd then i will.

thanks gamble2

If you are just looking for a lower stance, and don't mind a bit stiffer ride, you could always cut a coil out of a set of stockers. I have not done this on a Volvo but cutting one coil from the front springs on my 57 Chevy got me about a 2" drop.

Measure the distance between spring perches on your strut with it fully extended (wheel off ground and suspension unloaded) and measure a free (uncompressed) spring and subtract the height of one coil. If you aren't shorter than the measurement you took in the first step I would think you should be OK. You could probably snag a set of springs at a pick-n-pull for real cheap and could potentially save some major cash. Be advised, shortening a stock spring will make the ride stiffer.

Have fun with it!

You can go to http://www.eurosporttuning.com and find them. They have them for $205. They also have a lot of other cool Volvo performance stuff.
