a/c compressor bypass? 200

Hi all. I have an '89 240 wagon with a seized a/c compressor. the a/c didn't work before this happened and i didn't care too much about it. now, alas, i have no power steering because the power steering pump runs off the a/c pully. at this point i'd just assume remove the a/c completely since i don't really have a need for it and don't want to spend the money to replace it. IPD has a bypass kit to power the power steering pump directly from the crank pulley, but only for '78-'84 model years. does anyone know of anyone else who makes a bypass kit or any other type of work around for this situation? would finding power steering mounting brackets for a non-a/c equipped volvo of the same year be a solution? Any advice appreciated. Thanks, -Paul

ok. i'll try seeing if it'll spin freely after i disconnect it. i think the problem is worse than this because with the engine off and the belt from the crank pully to the compressor removed (it snapped off actually) i was not able to budge the belt connecting the compressor to the steering pump. shouldn't i be able to? now that i think of it, i suppose the power steering pump could be seized. i'll need to do more investigating methinks. thanks for the tip though!

I agree with Chris. The same happened to my ol' 80 240. As long as the compressor is free put the belt back on and un-plug the darn thing!! ;o)

Will the A/C pulley turn freely as long as the compressor is not engaged? If so, you could re-install the belt as it was and disconnect the power wire to the compressor to avoid any accidental engagement.
