Several years back I rented a car dolly from U-haul. I also bought their harness adapter for my '82 245 turbo.

Installed quick, worked great.

Fast, cheap, good. Pick any two of 3 :)

What these kits are is just a bunch of solid-state relays.

With more effort, you can achieve the same thing with mechanical relays.

Paul, if you look at my other post, you can just pull the 'bulb out' light and all will be fine for trailering.

I did this last year on my 940. Pretty simple. You get a kit that you clamp onto the existing wires at the tailights. Then you run a power line from the battery to the module underneath the car. And that's it! I got mine from an online hitch place in NC, but I don't remember the company Here's a place out West selling what you need for $29.95. http://www.hitch-web.com/vhitch.asp?CLID=22&SM=GLT+Turbo+Wagon+5+Door&DR=&MD=240&C=&MK=Volvo&Y=1984&SMBBID=397-210&YID=66&CID=3&MKID=61&DRID=1&MDID=44&OID=22&SMID=&cmdNext=Next&BPID=6&VID=5431

IPD also has a kit for $38. Probably the same thing, but at IPD prices. http://www.ipdusa.com/productdetails.aspx?ProductID=2147&CategoryID=198&NodeID=870&RootID=629

Good Luck,

Tom

What's the module all about??

I've always (on oldercars) tapped into the existing wires to get what i needed for the trailer. I just wired up my brothers Grand Cherokee, whats the deal with running additional voltage to that module? What is the issue with just tapping into the factory wires?

What's the module all about??

1) Not tripping the silly bulb out indicator
2) Not putting stress on existing wiring (safety)

This is not a concern in most cars, but for slightly more $ and a tad more hassle it seems worth it to me. For sure, I will do it on my 850.

Tom,

Thanks! I follow your logic. Sounds perfect. But when I go to the web address it's just a regular wire in adapter. Is this the one you used?

No, that's not the one I used. Poor example. I think this is the one I used from hitch finder.
