$2300. for a 1981 Turbo wagon?

Hi,

I talked to a neighbor who wants $2300. for his 1981 Turbo wagon. It is composed of doors and front fenders from several years (all the same color) and has moderate rust on the rockers and sills.

Also, there is only one interior exhaust vent on the R rear quarter panel. Did Volvo only install one in 1981? Most wagons I've seen had a vent on either side.

The engine looks average for its age and the interior is above average.

I was thinking @$500.00 What am I missing?

Thanks,

Bryan

Geez for $2300 you could get me to part with my sedan. :-D

Sure it's got the rust and banged up passenger side doors. But it's got a terrific black interior, head was rebuilt a few hundred miles ago, water cooled turbo, Nissens radiator, oil temp gauge, recent fuel pumps, and the all important manual transmission. Yes, I know it's not worth nearly $2300. No I'm not really trying to sell it.

But.. $500 for your neighbor's sounds reasonable. I would try and aim for $250. The rust is one of the most tedious problems with the 240s to deal with. And of course, if the car isn't intercooled, it's not nearly as much fun as it could be. As for the interior, if you can live with above average.. more power to you. But watch out, it gets pretty tiring to own and drive around in a car with an interior you're not too happy with.

I agree with everyone else. I paid $2500 for my '82 242 Turbo three years ago, but it was a CA car with no rust, all original body, new turbo and many other new parts. I wouldn't even think of selling my car, which is still in really good shape, for how much he's asking for a "project" car, to put it politely.

Paul,

Yes, it has an IC, but not water cooled turbo. The AC blows tepid air casually. The interior is good--but not perfect. There has not been a compression check.

What is M46?

Sounds to me like you are missing the fact that the current owner is delusional.
