I'm nearing completion (with much coaching from this forum) of a long overhaul list on a 91 740 with 185K on the clock. New front end, shocks, exhaust + CC, resoldered relays, new rpm sensor, fpr, filters, hoses, tranny flush, etc etc etc., you name it. How long did all this take? You don't wana know but the wife keeps reminding me of how long.
Anywho, I'm down to the alternator which is working fine but at this milage it has to be getting kinda thin. Is my best option to take in for a "rebuild" or "reconditioning" or can I iust buy a rebuild kit? What is the common procedure to follow on a working but high milage unit to make sure it's reliable and doesn't leave me at the mercy of Mr Tow Hook some dark rainy night. Many thanks in advance!
