New to the board and to Volvos - 1997 V90 S90-V90

Hi all. I am new to this site and new to volvos (sort of). I just bought a 1997 V90 with 100k miles off my father. He has owned more than his share of volvos, so I have been around them some.
Advice? Comments? Jokes?

Anyhow, gald to have been referred to this site.

Greg 'IndyVolvo'

Hi Greg:
I like my 965, although it has its quirks. My experience is that people seem to have a really good 960/V/S/90 and love it or a really bad one and hate it. I figure that you bought the car from your father so you know it was well taken care of and had no serious problems, so I suggest that you will like the car.

Read the 960 information in the 700/900 series FAQs on this site for some good information about the cars. I suggest that you run synthetic oil and flush the transmission and run synthetic ATF. My recommendation is to use only the volvo blue coolant. Check the radiator for cracks on the plastic sides, especially where the top radiator hose connects to the radiator. Change the thermostat if it hasn't been done lately. The timing belt needs to be changed religiously (I assume it was changed at 70K; make sure it was).

The interior leather is nice but needs maintenance. I was using Lexol, but recently used Leatherique which made a serious (positive) difference in the look and feel.

Good luck with the car. Keep reading the board.

Greg, try the "AWD/FWD Forum" under the buttons above. They will be able to help with your FWD car. We are all rear-wheel drive folks here with vastly different cars.

Steve knows that. I think the Iowa corn is pollenating and it's affecting his sinuses and concentration. No, actually that happened months ago.
